Raccoon Branch CG in Virginia

 Sunday May 21, 2023 We departed the campground at Lake Murray (Dreher Island State Park) at 8:45 this morning. There was no line at the sewer dump station so we were only ten minutes or so emptying our holding tanks and getting out on the road. scenes from Raccoon Branch I planned a route without any interstate highway travel. There was one section of a state road north of Gastonia North Carolina that was limited access, but there was little commercial truck traffic. The main road of our route was Hwy 321, we traveled it from Columbia SC to Boone NC a distance of 150 miles. scene from Raccoon Branch We stopped for fuel and lunch in the Linclonton NC. No special reason why we chose this town, we just needed both. Leaving the limited access section of 321 we found a busy commercial area with lots of food choice’s but poor parking for an RV. Jimmy Fortune

  Saturday December 9th Millie and I have been fortunate in that we’ve seen live performances by pretty near every living entertainer that we’ve had a desire to see. Some like Gene Watson and we’ve seen multiple times. At times it seemed like we could never connect with an entertainer when he/she was in our area. Most of the time this was because we were traveling somewhere else at the time. One of the great performers that we had never been able to align our schedules with was Jimmy Fortune. You may know him from his twenty years with the Statler Brothers or his twenty years since then as a solo artist.  Jimmy Fortune   Some months back I checked his website and saw that he would be performing in Liberty North Carolina in December. We hadn’t made departure plans for our winter Florida trip yet, so I decided to book tickets. From Manitous Springs, Colorado to Los Alamos, New Mexico

  June 21 2023 Wednesday We enjoyed our stay in Manitou Springs, well everything except the Garden of the Gods. It does have some nice rock formations, but it was just over run with people. Our campground, our campsite site, amenities were all top notch and all the personnel we encountered were pleasant and helpful. Garden of the Gods RV Park is right in the town of Manitou Springs and is convenient to everything. Too crowded for me. All the trails were crowded with tourists. We departed at our usual 9 am, drove a few miles east past all the marijuana dispensaries and merged onto I-25 south. It’s the only real option for going south through Colorado. I haven’t been writing in detail about routes but about 80 miles south of Colorado Springs we took a new route to Taos New Mexico and it I worth noting.
