On the road to Kentucky
Wednesday May 24, 2023
We departed Raccoon Branch this morning at 8 am and drove a long route on local roads to Kentucky. Even though we crossed the coal fields on the Virginia Kentucky boarder the roads were remarkably good. There was some winding and lots of hills but we’ve been on more severe roads in several different states.

The days trek ended after about 200 miles at Natural Bridge State Park. The park is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest and seems very remote. We were pleasantly surprised to have cell phone and internet access right in the campground.

We were in a blacked out zone while in Virginia, we had no cell or internet for 3 days. I have several blog entries ready to post; I will try to get them up tomorrow. NOTE: this turned out not to be true, we had a signal but not enough broadband to do anything.
I took this shot on a morning hike before the lift was operating. |
We did a little exploring around the area this afternoon and planned our activities for tomorrow. We will do a combination of riding a ski lift to the top of the mountain and some hiking on the trails around the stone arch called the Natural bridge.
I took this shot of the natural bridge early in the morning before people arrived. |
