Dreher Island State Park

 Saturday May 20 2023

The campground is nearly full, the sky is mostly overcast, but the air is comfortable and rain free. Our camping neighbors are mostly families and the forested campground is alive with the sound of children playing. Well, ok occasionally there is some whining or crying but it is the sound of families doing something together. I like to think the parents are teaching their children wholesome values. It gives me hope for the survival of our way of life. The country is clearly at a crisis point and seriously in danger of becoming another failed experiment in socialism. These families, these Americans are the last vanguards of freedom.  Ok, soapbox speech is over.

We took a ride into the nearby town of Chapin, Millie said she needed a couple items from the grocery store. Now I know I’m not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree but it got me to thinking. Didn’t we just leave home yesterday with a fully stocked larder? I suspect the two thrift stores we passed on our way to the campground may have something to do with this trip.

Anyone who thinks you can stream anything you want and DVDs are obsolete, has never been to the mountains.

We made the rounds, as usual I spent more than Millie, I bought seven DVD’s. Six of them were from Goodwill, they get two bucks for a DVD. The normal thrift store/garage sale rate is usually a dollar. We will need them at the next stop in the mountains of Virginia where there is no cell service or internet of any kind.

As a bonus for being a good husband, we ate lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Chapin. It was really good eating, I forgot the name of the place, El-something!

Movie tonight was Rob Roy, with Liam Neilson and Jessica Lange. It was a 6 out of ten, too much sex for an action adventure story and I expected an epic battle at the end. The movie faded out with a sword duel with a predictable ending.
