Jimmy Fortune

Saturday December 9th Millie and I have been fortunate in that we’ve seen live performances by pretty near every living entertainer that we’ve had a desire to see. Some like Gene Watson and we’ve seen multiple times. At times it seemed like we could never connect with an entertainer when he/she was in our area. Most of the time this was because we were traveling somewhere else at the time. One of the great performers that we had never been able to align our schedules with was Jimmy Fortune. You may know him from his twenty years with the Statler Brothers or his twenty years since then as a solo artist.  Jimmy Fortune   Some months back I checked his website and saw that he would be performing in Liberty North Carolina in December. We hadn’t made departure plans for our winter Florida trip yet, so I decided to book tickets. Even at that early stage the venue was almost sold out, there were a few seats in the rear of the theater and a few in the balcony. Millie and I had been discussin

Going South! September 29, 2023 Friday We departed the Hampton/Newport News area this morning at ten am. The weather is still overcast and gloomy. That was nice of Mother Nature, after four days of clouds, I wouldn’t want it sunny on the day we are leaving. Hampton Virginia to OBX It’s a short run down to the Outer Banks, less than a hundred miles I think. We arrived a little after noon, the skies are still overcast and there is a fairly stiff breeze blowing off the ocean. The Kitty Hawk RV Park employee who took us to our site said the sun is supposed to shine tomorrow. Speaking of said employee, he was the quintessential beach bum. He spoke the language, had the look and I’m sure smoked at least one joint so far today. It’s all good, we’re at the beach, in fact all we have between us and the ocean is a sand dune. We're parked 2nd site on the left, taken from the dune across the road. A short rant on Verizon wireless. Verizon used to be our mostly dependable cell/internet provid

September 24 2023 Sunday While Millie was at church this morning I went to the storage lot and picked up our travel trailer. By the time she got home I had the rig (Silver Bullet and Lil stinky sitting in front of the house. We had loaded everything except refrigerated food the day before and made short work of raiding the home frig for some vittles.  1st days travel By 11 am the house was locked and we were on our way. Our northern most destination was in Gloucester county Virginia but we would only go to Williamston North Carolina today a distance of 230 miles. We overnighted at Goose Creek State Park which is about 13 miles east of Williamston. Our site at Goose Creek State Park It was a nice enough park, flat and level gravel site with full hook ups; cost was $40 for the night. The only thing weird about it was it had the feel of an area that had been forested recently. The ground was covered with scrub junk foliage that grows in cut forests. Eventually new trees will grow high en

August 25 2023 Friday It was surprisingly warm sleeping last night; I expected it to be cooler here in the mountains. This whole trip the temperatures have been unpredictable. We’ve seen chilly nights in North Carolina and warm ones in Virginia, that’s ok, it's all good except that hot day in the cemetery. I could make a bad meme about the Bray cemetery being hotter than H@!! but they all seem like good folk so I'll refrain. One thing we’ve experienced this summer that is not good is ticks. Both Millie and I have had multiple tick bites, in spite of us using repellants. We even switched from the name brand Deet based bug sprays to tick specific repellants and tick killing treatments for our shoes and clothing. It’s just a bad year for them, I guess but I've already got one tick borne condition and I don't want another! I cooked eggs outside on the griddle and Millie made biscuits for our breakfast this morning. We will visit with the Pedigo family later today. We also

August 23 2023 Millie and I made a slight error in our schedule; luckily it became an extra day. Millie told everyone we were leaving today and going to Raccoon Branch, a federal campground near Konorock Virginia. I’m the one who made the itinerary, but I said ok and never checked the calendar. It did seem like we rushed around in order to get the cemetery work done and meet with family on the day the monuments were set. Late in the afternoon I mentioned that I didn’t think we were supposed to leave until Thursday. Finally we checked our appointment book and sure enough, we were prepping for departure a day early. We briefly discussed leaving anyhow, but there is a problem with the RV and if I was going to be able to repair it on the road, Martinsville has a lot more parts stores than Konorock which has none. You may remember I replaced the propane lines that run from the tanks to the regulator at Tom Johnson Camping Center in Marion NC. What I didn’t tell you is the original leaking
